UAE Secures Thrilling Comeback Win Against Oman in World Cup Qualifiers

The UAE showed remarkable determination in UAE’s World Cup journey, achieving a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Oman in Doha. This win keeps the Emiratis close to their second World Cup appearance, their first since 1990.

The match began with Oman taking an early lead. Amjad Al Harthi scored in the 12th minute from Majed Hassan’s cross, which deflected off Kouadio Kouame. Despite this early setback, UAE responded with resilience, reflecting the team’s spirit and UAE’s World Cup journey.

Coach Cosmin Olaroiu praised his players for their determination and adaptability. He made key substitutions at the start of the second half, introducing Canedo, Yahia Nader, and Harib Abdalla. These changes helped boost the team’s performance and ultimately led to a comeback.

The equalizer came from Marcus Meloni, who headed in a precise cross from Ali Saleh. Shortly after, Caio Lucas scored with a cross that bypassed defenders, securing the winning goal. The UAE now tops Group A and can secure a World Cup spot with a victory against Qatar in the final round.

Oman coach Carlos Queiroz acknowledged his team’s efforts but expressed disappointment at missed opportunities. The loss ended Oman’s chances of automatic qualification but left them able to compete for a second-place finish and a spot in the next qualification round.

Elsewhere, Iraq maintained its hopes of reaching the World Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Indonesia in Jeddah. Zidane Iqbal scored in the second half after coming off the bench, giving Iraq confidence ahead of their upcoming match against Saudi Arabia. Indonesia, meanwhile, was eliminated after two losses.

The UAE’s World Cup journey reflects not only skill but also tactical flexibility and mental strength. Players adapted to challenges on the field, creating multiple scoring chances before finally capitalizing in the second half. Fans celebrated the team’s comeback and expressed hope for success in the decisive match against Qatar.

With the group stage nearing completion, UAE’s World Cup journey continues to inspire both players and supporters. The team’s resilience, strategic decisions, and teamwork demonstrate their readiness for the global stage next year.
