UAE Extends Distance Learning in Schools Until April 17 to Ensure Student Safety

Schools across the UAE will continue distance learning practices for at least two more weeks. This decision prioritizes the safety and well-being of students and staff.

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that public and private schools, nurseries, and kindergartens will remain in remote learning until at least Friday, April 17. The extension follows the recent spring break, which was rescheduled earlier in the calendar.

Meanwhile, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) will consider requests from private institutions seeking to return to classrooms early. However, all approvals must come from the Ministry of Education. Authorities emphasized that safety remains the ultimate criterion in every decision.

Educational institutions will maintain remote operations during this period. Administrative staff and teachers will continue coordinating classes and learning activities online. Authorities encourage schools to adopt innovative teaching methods to boost engagement and maintain educational standards during this distance learning phase.

The Education, Human Development, and Community Development Council, together with KHDA, highlighted that private schools and nurseries may submit formal applications for in-person learning. These applications must clearly outline the reasons and circumstances, ensuring transparency and compliance with safety protocols. Requests are reviewed individually and carefully evaluated by the Ministry.

Officials stressed that the extension of distance learning is temporary. They noted that weekly reviews will determine whether students can return to in-person learning sooner. Authorities continue monitoring health developments, aiming to balance education continuity with public safety.

Families and students have adapted to the new routine, leveraging online platforms and digital resources. Schools have also implemented measures to maintain curriculum standards, ensuring students do not fall behind academically. Authorities encouraged communication between parents, teachers, and administration to address challenges promptly.

The UAE’s commitment to safety and quality education remains clear. Authorities reaffirmed that distance learning will continue only as long as necessary, reflecting the government’s proactive approach to safeguarding communities.
