Qatar and Zakynthos Expand Cultural, Tourism Cooperation

Qatar and the Greek island of Zakynthos are exploring closer cooperation in culture and tourism as preparations continue for the Greece-Qatar Year of Culture 2027.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Qatar’s Ambassador to Greece, Ali Khalfan Al-Mansouri, and Zakynthos Mayor Giorgos Stasinopoulos, as part of the ambassador’s ongoing engagement with Greek municipalities.

Talks focused on how Zakynthos could contribute to the Greece-Qatar Year of Culture 2027, a bilateral initiative announced in 2024 to strengthen cultural ties between the two countries through exhibitions, performances, educational exchanges and heritage-focused events.

During the meeting, the mayor highlighted Zakynthos’ cultural identity, pointing to its musical traditions, historical heritage and local gastronomy. He also showcased the island’s internationally recognised attractions, including Navagio Beach, the Blue Caves and the National Marine Park of Zakynthos.

Stasinopoulos proposed organising cultural events on the island alongside promotional activities in Qatar to raise Zakynthos’ international profile and encourage greater cooperation in tourism and cultural exchange.

Ambassador Al-Mansouri welcomed the proposal and said the participation of local communities in the Year of Culture programme could help deepen mutual understanding and strengthen relations between Qatar and Greece.

The Years of Culture programme is a long-running Qatari initiative that promotes cultural exchange with partner countries through a range of artistic, educational and community activities.
