Kuwait is moving to expand educational and rehabilitation opportunities for inmates through a new initiative aimed at supporting social reintegration and strengthening reform efforts within correctional institutions.
The Public Authority for Applied Education and Training said it held discussions with correctional institutions, the Civil Service Commission and the Public Authority for Manpower to develop educational and vocational training programs for inmates during their sentences.
Officials said the initiative aligns with state efforts to reinforce the humanitarian and rehabilitative role of correctional facilities while promoting access to education and training as key tools for reform and reintegration into society.
PAAET Director General Hassan Al-Fajjam said education and vocational training play an important role in helping individuals rebuild their lives and prepare for a more stable future after release.
He added that the programs are part of the authority’s broader social responsibility and reflect Kuwait’s commitment to supporting human development and improving reintegration opportunities for former inmates.
The discussions focused on introducing a range of technical, vocational and rehabilitation courses tailored to inmates’ needs and capabilities. Officials also explored ways to accredit training outcomes and connect them to labor market demands in coordination with government agencies.
Representatives from correctional institutions said the initiative supports efforts to strengthen reform and rehabilitation programs within prisons and reflects the country’s commitment to sustainable humanitarian initiatives.
The meeting also examined employment opportunities for former inmates within the private sector, including support for entrepreneurship and small business development to improve long-term social stability after release.
Participants stressed the importance of delivering educational and training programs directly inside correctional facilities through qualified academic and training staff to ensure effective rehabilitation outcomes.
