Iraq Arrests Ex-Governor In Corruption Probe

Iraqi authorities have arrested Raed Al Jubouri, the former governor of Saladin province and current head of its health department, as part of an expanding anti-corruption investigation involving senior officials.

The arrest is linked to confessions made by a detained former deputy oil minister, according to an official source, in what investigators describe as part of a wider financial corruption network under scrutiny by the judiciary.

State media reports indicate that the case has developed following weeks of interrogations and arrests tied to alleged money laundering and misuse of public funds.

Judicial authorities say the investigation has uncovered significant assets allegedly linked to the network, including millions of dollars in cash, large sums in Iraqi dinars, frozen real estate holdings, luxury vehicles and confiscated gold items.

Investigators also reported that some of the cash was discovered in concealed locations, while other funds were allegedly intercepted during attempts to move them across borders.

The Central Anti-Corruption Court said earlier that evidence gathered in recent weeks has helped map what it described as a structured financial network involving senior figures in the oil sector and local administration.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, with further arrests and asset seizures expected as part of a broader crackdown on corruption across state institutions.
