University Magazine Program Empowers Students in Radio

The student radio program at Kuwait University showcases young talent while building practical media skills among students. Furthermore, it provides a platform for students to apply academic knowledge in real-world radio production. The program demonstrates how hands-on opportunities can empower students to shape national media’s future.

During a seminar called “Integrating Roles in Radio and Media,” Kuwait University celebrated the program’s third anniversary. Dr Yousef Al-Sari’e, Director General of the General Directorate of Radio at the Ministry of Information, praised the student radio program as a model for developing creative and professional skills. Moreover, he highlighted the ministry’s commitment to empowering young talent and preparing future media professionals.

Launched in October 2022, the program offers students practical experience in producing, presenting, directing, and editing radio content. In addition, it combines academic discussion, student experiences, and modern media production to create a comprehensive learning environment. The program has grown from a 30-minute segment to a main show lasting an hour and a half every Monday.

Dr Hussein Murad, Associate Professor in the Department of Media, said the program attracts students from multiple disciplines. Consequently, it allows diverse content while enhancing skills in a structured academic setting. Over 70 students have trained in production roles, and more than 100 academic and administrative figures contributed to the program’s development.

The ceremony also recognized students who excelled in preparing, directing, and presenting content, showcasing their contributions to enriching the student radio program. Furthermore, the program encourages students to embrace technological advances and apply innovative approaches to media production. It continues to bridge classroom learning and professional experience.

Overall, the student radio program illustrates the value of practical education in developing young media professionals.
