UAE Launches $2 Billion Global Water Platform to Secure Clean Water Worldwide

Abu Dhabi has launched a new initiative called the global water platform to improve water security worldwide. The platform aims to fund innovative projects, unlock investments, and enhance sustainable water management. By focusing on this global water platform, Abu Dhabi seeks to support developing countries and ensure clean water access for millions.

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) will mobilize $2 billion from local and international sources. Initially, $1 billion will be allocated over five years, from 2026 to 2030. The funding targets approximately 10 million beneficiaries across various countries. Moreover, the platform will promote technologies and solutions to manage water resources more effectively.

In addition, the initiative encourages partnerships with global institutions. By collaborating, partners can co-finance projects and support environmental sustainability. It will also enhance quality of life and strengthen the UAE’s leadership in global development. Furthermore, the platform aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation.

ADFD Director-General Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi said the launch reflects the UAE’s vision for tackling global challenges. “The global water platform stands as a key pillar of our 2030 strategy,” he added. “It will help us secure essential resources for future generations.”

Support Services Department Director Fatima Ateeq Al Mazrouei highlighted the platform’s forward-looking strategy. She explained that integrated local and international efforts are essential to sustain water resources. Moreover, the initiative will support innovative programs, youth-led research, and awareness campaigns on water issues.

The platform will also use various financing tools, including development loans, private investments, export financing, and equity investments. This flexibility ensures projects can be tailored to the needs of beneficiary countries. In addition, ADFD plans to sign cooperation agreements to implement high-impact water projects worldwide.

By launching this initiative, Abu Dhabi reinforces its commitment to global water security. The global water platform represents a strategic step in ensuring sustainable resources and a better future for communities everywhere.
