Basra has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with US engineering and technology company KBR to strengthen cooperation in Iraq’s energy and infrastructure sectors.
The agreement was signed on Tuesday by Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani during a meeting attended by US Chargé d’Affaires David R. Harris and a delegation from the Texas-based company.
According to the US Embassy in Baghdad, the memorandum reflects efforts to expand economic cooperation between Iraq and the United States while encouraging greater private-sector investment.
Under the agreement, KBR is expected to explore opportunities to apply its engineering expertise and technology across projects in Basra’s oil, gas and infrastructure sectors.
KBR, headquartered in Houston, provides engineering, technology and professional services for the energy, defence and industrial sectors, with experience in large-scale hydrocarbon and infrastructure projects worldwide.
The agreement also supports Iraq’s broader plans to modernise its energy industry and attract international investment. The Iraqi government has recently sought to increase the involvement of major US companies in developing the country’s oil, gas and infrastructure projects.
