Oman Champions Women in Energy with Launch of First ‘Women in LPG’ Chapter

Oman launched the first Women in LPG initiative in the Middle East, advancing women’s empowerment in the energy sector. This milestone was celebrated during the Middle East LPG Summit and Exhibition 2025 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event highlighted Oman’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and female leadership in the LPG industry.

The initiative is led by the World Liquid Gas Association (WLGA) and Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion. It aims to increase women’s participation across the LPG value chain. Furthermore, the program offers mentorship, leadership training, and professional collaboration for women in the sector.

WINLPG has grown globally to include over 4,000 members in nearly 15 national chapters. It provides a neutral platform for women to share experiences and success stories. By addressing challenges together, the network strengthens resilience in the global LPG industry. Launching the chapter in Oman extends these opportunities to Middle Eastern women.

Alison Abbott, Co-Founder of WINLPG and WLGA Communications Director, emphasized that national chapters allow initiatives to meet country-specific needs. She explained that Oman’s program responds to unique local challenges, unlike initiatives in the U.S., India, or Nigeria. Abbott also noted that the program addresses the historic underrepresentation of women while creating clear business advantages.

The Oman chapter will begin with an annual gathering for women in the LPG industry. Additionally, it will encourage collaboration among women from competing firms. Abbott stressed that male support is essential for success. Without it, the program cannot achieve its full potential.

Officials highlighted Oman’s leadership in supporting women in traditionally male-dominated industries. Moreover, the chapter strengthens mentorship, networks, and female entrepreneurship. These efforts empower young professionals and create new opportunities for career growth.

Through the Women in LPG initiative, Oman demonstrates its commitment to gender equality and sustainable development. The program cultivates leadership, boosts inclusion, and fosters innovation in the energy sector.

Overall, the launch reflects Oman’s dedication to empowering women while reinforcing its global reputation as a leader in energy and social progress.
