Bahrain Receives Bids For 100MW Solar Project

Bahrain has received two bids for the development of the 100-megawatt Bilaj Al Jazayer solar project, marking a further step in the Kingdom’s efforts to expand renewable energy capacity and diversify its power mix.

The project, being developed by the Electricity and Water Authority under a public-private partnership model, attracted proposals from renewable energy developer Yellow Door Energy and Saudi-based ACWA Power.

According to information published by Bahrain’s Tender Board, the two companies submitted separate bids for the build-own-operate project, which is planned for southern Bahrain near the Bilaj Al Jazayer area.

The solar facility is expected to begin commercial operations in the third quarter of 2027 and will contribute to Bahrain’s target of sourcing 20% of its energy from renewable resources by 2035.

The tender process was launched in October 2025 as part of wider efforts to increase clean energy generation and support long-term sustainability goals.

Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen Bahrain’s renewable energy infrastructure while helping meet growing electricity demand through lower-carbon sources of power.
