Iran launched missile and drone attacks across parts of the region as Gulf countries increased security measures following escalating tensions between Tehran and the United States.
Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, and Oman reported heightened security responses after waves of US strikes inside Iran. Washington said its operations targeted Iranian military infrastructure and aimed to protect international shipping routes, including those around the Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar is also observing a period of national mourning following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The country has announced four days of mourning, with regional and international leaders expected to pay their respects to the former ruler, who played a major role in Qatar’s political and economic transformation.
Meanwhile, European Union officials are debating possible measures regarding trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. Discussions over potential restrictions could influence the bloc’s future approach toward the issue.
In other regional developments, the UAE and Egypt reaffirmed their strategic partnership during talks between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. The discussions focused on regional stability and humanitarian efforts related to Gaza.
Dubai also approved a Dh2 billion ($544.5 million) infrastructure project that includes new bridges, tunnels, and cycling facilities. The project aims to improve traffic flow and strengthen connectivity across the city by 2028.
