India, UAE Sign Energy and Defence Agreements

The United Arab Emirates and India have signed a series of agreements covering energy security, defence cooperation and long-term fuel supply, following high-level talks in Abu Dhabi between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The discussions took place during an official visit by the Indian prime minister, with both sides focusing on strengthening strategic cooperation across key sectors including oil storage, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply and military collaboration.

India and the UAE sign slew of agreements including setting up strategic petroleum and gas reserves in India, reflecting growing energy interdependence between the two countries amid shifting global supply dynamics and regional geopolitical uncertainty.

Under one of the key agreements, India’s Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) will deepen cooperation on crude storage. The arrangement includes expanding the UAE’s participation in India’s strategic petroleum reserves and exploring additional storage for natural gas and LPG.

Officials said the partnership is aimed at enhancing India’s energy security through diversified supply sources, while also strengthening the UAE’s long-standing role as a key energy partner in Asia.

A separate agreement on LPG supply is expected to secure long-term fuel arrangements for India, where liquefied petroleum gas remains a widely used household energy source.

In addition to energy cooperation, both countries signed a framework agreement on defence partnership. The deal outlines plans for industrial collaboration, technology sharing and potential joint development of military equipment.

India and the UAE sign slew of agreements including setting up strategic petroleum and gas reserves in India, as both governments expand cooperation beyond traditional trade ties into broader strategic and security domains.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments in West Asia, including ongoing tensions in the region. According to official statements, India expressed support for the UAE and condemned recent attacks targeting the country.

The agreements reflect a broader trend of deepening ties between the Gulf states and South Asia, as countries in the region seek to strengthen energy security, diversify partnerships and expand defence and industrial cooperation.
