Guyana and Kuwait have marked the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations alongside Guyana’s 60th year of independence, with officials highlighting expanding cooperation in energy, trade and investment.
The Embassy of Guyana in Kuwait hosted a commemorative event reflecting on decades of bilateral ties and growing opportunities between the two countries. Diplomats described the relationship as steadily evolving, particularly in areas linked to economic development.
Guyana, which gained independence in 1966, has undergone significant economic transformation in recent years following major offshore oil discoveries that have placed it among the fastest-growing economies in the world.
The Guyanese ambassador in Kuwait praised the warm relations between the two sides, noting increasing engagement since the establishment of the diplomatic mission. He said cooperation had continued to expand through dialogue and mutual visits.
Officials also pointed to shared interests in energy development and sustainable investment, with Guyana increasingly positioning itself as a destination for foreign investment, including from Gulf states.
Kuwait has maintained a steady diplomatic presence with Guyana over three decades, with both sides collaborating in international forums including the United Nations.
The embassy said the anniversary underscores a new phase in bilateral relations, with future cooperation expected to focus on infrastructure, agriculture, energy and food security.
Looking ahead, both countries signaled interest in strengthening economic ties as Guyana continues to leverage its natural resources and Kuwait expands its global investment partnerships.
