Bahrain continues advancing human rights through the National Action Charter. The Shura Council’s Human Rights Committee held a dialogue session highlighting the Charter’s impact on rights and freedoms. This session emphasized legal progress, digital transformation, and cultural protections.
The dialogue opened with remarks from the Shura Council Chairman, who praised the Charter for creating a solid framework for governance and citizen rights. He explained that the Charter underpins Bahrain’s legislative reforms and encourages balanced participation between the legislative and executive branches. Consequently, the system strengthens public trust and supports the country’s ongoing development initiatives.
The Human Rights Committee stressed that Bahrain has made significant progress in civil, political, social, economic, and cultural rights. Committee leaders highlighted the modernization of legislation to keep pace with emerging challenges, especially those tied to artificial intelligence and digital transformation. They emphasized the importance of legal protections for privacy, data security, freedom of expression, and information rights. This focus ensures that technology serves citizens while preserving dignity.
The dialogue included three main sessions. The first explored “The National Action Charter: Stages of Approval and its Impact on the System of Rights and Freedoms.” Speakers explained how the Charter shaped constitutional reforms and influenced national legislation, ensuring justice, equality, as well as transparency in governance.
Moreover, the second session addressed “Human Rights in the Context of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation.” Experts discussed opportunities and challenges in protecting rights amid technological growth. They emphasized the need for responsible innovation paired with strong legislative frameworks to safeguard privacy and freedom.
In addition, the third session focused on “Cultural and Social Rights in Bahraini Legislation.” Participants stressed that cultural rights preserve identity, enhance social cohesion, and reflect human dignity. Legislative and constitutional frameworks guarantee these rights, ensuring citizens enjoy broad protections.
Throughout the dialogue, Shura Council members praised the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to human rights. They also emphasized the connection between the National Action Charter and Bahrain’s broader legislative efforts. A short film highlighted the Charter’s role in strengthening rights and guiding future policy.
