Bahrain Hands Five-Year Sentence to Mall Robbery Suspect

Bahrain’s First High Criminal Court has sentenced a repeat offender to five years in prison after convicting him of attempting to rob a shopping mall while using violence against an employee.

According to court proceedings, the incident occurred when two mall employees opened the office area and discovered the suspect inside. Rather than fleeing, the man allegedly attacked one of the workers with a pair of bolt cutters, injuring his ear, before stealing electronic devices and other valuables.

A mall security guard pursued the suspect and recorded his movements while other witnesses alerted authorities. Investigators said the man hid some of the stolen items in a nearby building before returning to the mall, where he allegedly threatened people with an iron tool and continued moving through the complex. Security cameras captured his movements in the mall’s corridors and elevators.

Police later arrested the suspect after an investigation. Prosecutors said he confessed to the attempted robbery, while eyewitnesses identified him as the attacker. Medical evidence also supported the victim’s account, confirming injuries consistent with the bolt cutters used in the assault.

Authorities found that the defendant had a previous criminal record. The court convicted him of attempted robbery involving violence and sentenced him to five years in prison.

Prosecutors said the robbery was not completed because the victim discovered the attempted theft, preventing the suspect from carrying out the crime as intended.
