Kuwait Limits Food Rations to Citizens and Families

Kuwait has restricted access to subsidized food rations to Kuwaiti citizens, their families and domestic workers under a new ministerial decision aimed at tightening the country’s food subsidy system.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Minister Osama Boodai approved the measure by amending the executive regulations of Law No. 117 of 2013. The changes limit eligibility for subsidized food supplies to Kuwaiti citizens, their family members and registered domestic workers.

The decision also cancels all previous provisions that allowed other categories of beneficiaries to receive subsidized food items.

In addition, authorities will suspend food rations for anyone found selling or transferring subsidized goods to others. The ministry said violators will be referred to the relevant authorities for legal action.

The new rules are part of the government’s efforts to ensure subsidized food supplies reach eligible beneficiaries and to prevent misuse of the state support program.
