Bahrain Releases New Figures on Government Employment Structure

The Bahraini government workforce numbers show strong reliance on permanent national employment. The Civil Service Bureau released updated figures following a parliamentary inquiry. The inquiry focused on employment types across ministries and government institutions. Officials responded with detailed data covering workforce composition.

According to the bureau, 36,292 Bahrainis work in government entities under civil service regulations. This figure represents 87 percent of the total government workforce. Notably, 36,180 employees hold permanent positions. That number equals 99.7 percent of all Bahraini government employees.

Meanwhile, only 112 Bahraini employees work under temporary contracts. This group represents just 0.03 percent of total Bahraini employees. Therefore, temporary employment remains extremely limited within public institutions. Officials emphasized this structure reflects employment stability policies.

Moreover, temporary employees serve in several government entities. However, most work within the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture. That ministry employs 34 temporary workers. These positions connect directly to the duration of municipal council mandates.

Consequently, these roles carry a fixed operational purpose. Authorities explained that contract duration matches council timelines. Therefore, the roles end when municipal terms conclude. Despite this limitation, officials highlighted protections for temporary staff.

Importantly, authorities included temporary employees under civil service legal provisions. This decision protects employment rights and benefits. As a result, temporary workers receive legal safeguards similar to permanent employees. Officials described this approach as a rights-preserving measure.

The Bahraini government workforce structure demonstrates a long-term commitment to national employment. Officials stressed that permanent hiring supports institutional continuity. Additionally, stable employment strengthens administrative efficiency across public services.

Furthermore, officials clarified that workforce planning follows legal frameworks. Employment policies aim to balance flexibility with job security. Therefore, temporary hiring remains restricted to specific operational needs. Authorities continue reviewing workforce requirements regularly.

The bureau also noted cooperation with legislative authorities. Parliamentary oversight helps ensure transparency in employment practices. As a result, employment statistics receive public clarification when questions arise. This process supports accountability within government institutions.

Observers believe these figures reflect broader labor policy priorities. The government continues prioritizing Bahraini nationals in public employment. Moreover, officials seek to reduce uncertainty within government careers. This strategy promotes long-term workforce stability.

The Bahraini government workforce data reinforces confidence in public sector employment policies. Officials confirmed ongoing evaluations of staffing needs. Ultimately, authorities aim to maintain fairness, stability, and legal protection for all government employees.
