Bahrain Ranks Fourth in Arab Purchasing Power Index

Bahrain ranked fourth among Arab countries in the domestic purchasing power index during the first half of 2026, highlighting the Kingdom’s strong consumer spending capacity and income levels.

According to recently released data, Bahrain recorded 117.3 points in the index, which measures consumers’ purchasing power relative to the cost of living. A higher score indicates that residents can afford more goods and services with their income.

The report showed that Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries secured the top six positions in the Arab world, reflecting their strong economic performance and living standards.

Kuwait led the rankings with 175.8 points, followed by Qatar at 168.1 and Oman at 151.3. Bahrain placed fourth, ahead of Saudi Arabia, which scored 115.7, and the United Arab Emirates with 113.4.

Among the remaining Arab countries, Iraq ranked seventh with 57.6 points, followed by Jordan (55.3), Morocco (43.7), Libya (37.8), Lebanon (35.6), Algeria (35.3) and Tunisia (33.6).

Egypt recorded 23.9 points, while Yemen ranked fifteenth with 16.6 points. Syria placed last in the regional rankings with 6.4 points.

The domestic purchasing power index compares income levels with the cost of living to assess how much consumers can buy in each country. Higher scores indicate stronger purchasing power and greater access to goods and services.
