Bahrain Commits to Expanding Green Efforts Through National Afforestation Plan by 2035

Bahrain has reaffirmed its strong commitment to expanding its green spaces through the National Afforestation Plan. This announcement came on Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22. The plan aims to double the tree count in Bahrain, increasing it from 1.8 million to 3.6 million trees by the year 2035.

Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, shared this vision during Earth Day events. He stated that Bahrain will continue expanding afforestation projects throughout the Kingdom. He emphasized that this plan aligns with the Kingdom’s broader environmental strategy and carbon neutrality goals.

The National Afforestation Plan forms part of Bahrain’s National Action Plan for Carbon Neutrality. This initiative, launched by the King, reflects Bahrain’s strong will to combat climate change. It also shows the government’s active role in promoting sustainability through tree planting and other green initiatives.

Moreover, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister are spearheading several programs to boost afforestation and environmental protection. These programs are designed to preserve the natural environment while promoting a better quality of life.

In addition to afforestation, the “Mangrove Bahrain” project stands out as another major effort. Led by Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, it focuses on preserving marine life and expanding mangrove coverage. This initiative adds momentum to the broader environmental strategy by protecting coastal ecosystems.

Al Mubarak also highlighted several ongoing projects to boost environmental sustainability. These include improving waste management, expanding cleaning services, and building green spaces in urban areas. Bahrain is also developing recycling centers to support eco-friendly waste practices across the country.

Through the National Afforestation Plan, Bahrain aims to promote green practices for future generations. These actions ensure that the country continues moving toward a sustainable and eco-friendly future. The government considers Earth Day a moment to renew dedication to protecting the land and securing national heritage.

Ultimately, Bahrain’s National Afforestation Plan represents a vital step in creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable environment.
