Bahrain and Kuwait Strengthen Ties Through Alternative Sentencing Cooperation

Bahrain leads in alternative sentencing as regional collaboration grows stronger. A high-level Kuwaiti delegation visited Bahrain to explore the program. Brigadier Osama Majid Al Majid led the delegation from Kuwait’s Correctional Institutions Directorate.

His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa welcomed the guests warmly. He serves as the Director-General of Implementation of Sentences and Alternative Penalties. The two sides held productive discussions on enhancing cooperation.

During the meeting, they emphasized exchanging expertise and improving correctional systems. Bahrain continues to support modern reforms in this sector. The visit also highlighted ongoing efforts to humanize justice across the Gulf.

Sheikh Khalid praised His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for launching the program. He called the initiative a reflection of Bahrain’s core values. These include dignity, development, and human rights.

He also acknowledged Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s dedicated oversight. His involvement ensures continued improvement of the program. Additionally, the Interior Minister supports this modern correctional vision.

Thanks to these efforts, Bahrain’s Open Prisons Program received global recognition. The American Correctional Association awarded it international accreditation. Bahrain became the first non-U.S. country to earn this honor.

Bahrain leads in alternative sentencing by integrating advanced facilities. The Kuwaiti delegation toured the Open Prisons Complex. There, they explored rehabilitation services, training rooms, and reintegration programs.

They also visited multiple program partner sites. These included the Salmaniya Medical Complex and the Delmarine Center. The delegation observed real-life examples of sentence alternatives in practice.

Moreover, Bahrain equips beneficiaries to launch their own projects. The program offers business licenses, training, and project incubation. These tools empower participants and reduce repeat offenses.

The Kuwaiti officials praised Bahrain’s model and professionalism. They agreed to enhance future cooperation and share expertise.
