Team Aoki’s Rise: Saudi-backed E1 Racing Achievements

Introduction to Team Aoki’s Performance

Team Aoki, backed by Saudi Arabia, is making a strong impact in the UIM E1 World Championship. After just two races in the 2025 season, the team now holds second place in the standings. This marks a dramatic improvement from last year, when they finished eighth. Their rapid rise in the all-electric raceboat series has captured the attention of motorsport fans worldwide.

The Key Figures Behind the Success

At the helm of the team is American DJ Steve Aoki. He leads a strong squad that includes Saudi rally driver Mashael Al-Obaidan and former F1 test driver Dani Clos. Together, they won the first race of the season in Jeddah. They followed up with a second-place finish in Qatar, positioning them as strong contenders for the 2025 championship.

Saudi Connection and Prince Sultan’s Support

Team Aoki has a distinct Saudi flavor, thanks to the significant backing of Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Salman. As the chairman of the Saudi Water Sports and Diving Federation (SWSDF), Prince Sultan plays a crucial role in supporting the team. His dedication to marine sustainability is key to his involvement in the E1 series. “I am obsessed with the ocean,” he said. “I started diving when I was 15. It’s heartbreaking to see the damage to our coral reefs.”

His focus on environmental issues aligns with E1’s message of marine sustainability, making his support even more meaningful.

The Impact of Saudi Pilots in the Team

Team Aoki has made it a point to support Saudi athletes. In the first season, they had two Saudi pilots, and Mashael Al-Obaidan continues with the team in 2025. Prince Sultan views Team Aoki as an essential stepping stone for Saudi athletes to compete at the highest levels. “We want Team Aoki to open doors for Saudis who want to race,” he explained.

Mashael Al-Obaidan, a highly skilled driver, was especially proud of the team’s victory in Jeddah. “Winning there was an unforgettable experience,” she said. “It was emotional to represent Saudi Arabia and see the pride in people’s eyes.”

Prince Sultan and Team Aoki’s Milestone

The victory in Jeddah marked a significant milestone for both Prince Sultan and Team Aoki. “It was an incredible experience,” Prince Sultan said. “We celebrated, but immediately refocused on the next race.” His words reflect the team’s mindset: stay humble and focused on the future. The E1 series’ level playing field, where all teams race identical electric boats, makes the competition even more thrilling and unpredictable.

The Future of E1 Racing

Although the E1 series is still in its early stages, Prince Sultan believes it is set for explosive growth. The involvement of celebrity team owners such as Steve Aoki has played a significant role in the series’ rise. “E1 has everything motorsport fans want—exciting races, fair competition, and incredible speed,” he said.

Looking Ahead: Team Aoki’s Bright Future

Team Aoki’s success in the E1 Championship underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in international motorsports. The team’s strong leadership, skilled drivers, and commitment to sustainability position them for continued success. Prince Sultan’s involvement and the team’s impressive performance show that Saudi Arabia is becoming an increasingly important player in global motorsports.
