A drone has reportedly crashed near a guesthouse belonging to Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi in Iraq’s Anbar province, according to the country’s Security Media Cell.
Authorities said the “very small drone” caused a fire upon impact, though no significant damage was reported. Officials added that preliminary technical assessments indicate the device was not carrying explosives.
The statement noted that the drone appeared to have a limited range of around 750 metres and was highly flammable when exposed to heat.
Security, intelligence and forensic teams have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether the site was deliberately targeted.
A senior Anbar Provincial Council official said Halbousi was not present at the guesthouse at the time of the incident. He also noted that authorities have not yet confirmed whether the location was intended to be struck, suggesting the drone may have malfunctioned or been brought down by security measures.
The investigation is ongoing as Iraqi authorities assess the nature of the incident and its potential security implications.
