Tunisia, Turkey Confirm Start of Dhu Al Hijjah

Tunisia and Turkey have officially confirmed the start of Dhu Al Hijjah, setting Eid Al Adha for Wednesday, May 27, in the two countries.

Tunisia was the first to announce the beginning of the Islamic month after declaring Saturday, May 16, as the 29th day of Dhu Al Qadah. Authorities said Monday, May 18, would mark the first day of the new month.

Turkey also confirmed the same date, following its long-standing practice of relying on astronomical calculations rather than traditional moon sighting methods.

The announcements are closely followed across the Gulf and wider Muslim world, as several countries coordinate public holidays, travel schedules and religious observances around the Islamic calendar.

Different approaches to determining the lunar calendar can occasionally lead to variations in the dates observed by Muslim-majority countries. However, regional announcements often provide an early indication of when Eid Al Adha celebrations may begin elsewhere.

Tunisia and Turkey have confirmed Monday, May 18, as the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah, with Eid Al Adha expected on May 27. The announcements are being closely watched across the Gulf region. #EidAlAdha #Tunisia #Turkey #IslamicCalendar #GulfNews
