Protecting Oman’s Cultural Heritage from Illegal Practices

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has raised concerns about the illegal use of metal detectors to search for and excavate archaeological artifacts. This practice directly violates Oman’s cultural heritage laws and puts the Sultanate’s rich history at risk. Therefore, the Ministry strongly urges the public to avoid engaging in such unlawful activities.

The Ministry reminded citizens that the Omani Cultural Heritage Law, established by Royal Decree (35/2019), clearly prohibits unauthorized excavation. As a result, those caught in violation of this law will face legal action. The Ministry is determined to ensure that these illegal practices stop immediately.

Furthermore, the Ministry highlighted how these activities damage Oman’s cultural heritage. Excavating without permission can destroy or permanently alter important artifacts. These items provide valuable insight into Oman’s history, making their preservation crucial for future generations. The Ministry is committed to protecting these treasures and urges the public to help safeguard them.

In addition to this, the Ministry is calling for greater cooperation from all citizens. It encourages everyone to report any illegal use of metal detectors or excavation attempts. Public awareness and participation are essential to ending this harmful practice. With everyone’s help, Oman’s historical sites can remain intact.

Moreover, the Ministry pointed out that these efforts are not only about following the law but also about respecting and preserving Oman’s cultural legacy. Protecting Oman’s cultural heritage is a collective responsibility.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism continues to enforce the Omani Cultural Heritage Law. Legal actions will be taken against violators, as the Ministry works to preserve the nation’s treasures. Citizens must work together to protect Oman’s cultural heritage for future generations.
