Ice and Clouds Blanket Iraq as Rain and Snow Sweep Across the Country

Iraq faces winter weather as clouds and ice cover much of the country, bringing rain and snow to several areas. The General Authority for Meteorology reported partly cloudy to overcast skies on Tuesday, with light rain in eastern provinces and snowfall in the mountains.

The authority said most regions would stay partly cloudy to cloudy, clearing in the evening except in the northeast. Fog appeared in the eastern northern areas during the morning and gradually lifted. Temperatures dropped compared with Monday, creating cold mornings and nights and cool daytime weather.

Northwesterly winds reached 20 to 30 kilometers per hour, slowing in the northern provinces later. Visibility ranged from 8 to 10 kilometers but fell below one kilometer in foggy areas. Authorities urged drivers to exercise caution on foggy and icy roads.

For Wednesday, the forecast predicts clear skies with scattered clouds. Northern and southern provinces may see slightly higher temperatures, while central Iraq remains stable. Thursday will bring partly cloudy conditions in the north and south, with cloudy skies and rain in western central regions.

On Friday, Iraq faces winter weather again. Clouds will dominate, with rain and possible thunderstorms across multiple areas. Snow continues in northern regions, where temperatures will drop further. Saturday will remain partly cloudy to cloudy, with afternoon rain in central and southern areas. Southeasterly winds will strengthen in southern regions.

The authority warned that cold conditions will continue during mornings and nights throughout the week. Northern provinces may experience slight temperature increases by Saturday. Residents should prepare for frost, icy roads, and sudden weather changes.

Overall, Iraq faces winter weather this week, combining rain, snow, and cold temperatures. Authorities advise residents to follow forecasts closely and take precautions. The winter storms highlight the ongoing impact of weather on daily life and transport across the country.
