Baghdad to Showcase Arab Architecture Festival in October

Baghdad prepares for a major cultural milestone with the Arab Architecture Festival set for October. This gathering promises to transform the city into a regional hub of creativity and urban dialogue. Organizers say the festival will strengthen Baghdad’s position as the Arab Capital of Tourism. The Arab Architecture Festival will stand as the largest event of its kind in Iraq’s recent history. Leaders emphasize that the festival will present Iraq’s cultural and economic revival through architecture. Furthermore, the festival will highlight Iraq’s architectural revival and cultural achievements Thousands of architects, students, and enthusiasts are expected to attend, creating an environment for knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani will sponsor the festival, underlining the importance of urban renewal. He said the event will serve as a platform to address challenges facing fast-growing cities. In addition, the festival will allow Iraq to showcase its architectural heritage and future vision. Authorities are coordinating with ministries, cultural institutions, and international partners to ensure a smooth and impactful event.

The festival is organized in partnership with the Tamayouz Excellence Award Foundation, founded in the UK in 2012. Over the years, the foundation has grown into a global initiative celebrating architectural achievement. It has honored many Arab architects and once carried the influence of legendary designer Zaha Hadid. Experts from the foundation will lead panels and mentoring sessions, providing guidance to emerging architects.

This week, al-Sudani met with architect Ahmed al-Malak, who leads the foundation. They discussed event logistics together with Iraqi architect Manhal al-Habboubi and Jordanian architect Osaid Al-Aytan. These talks focused on ensuring smooth preparations and maximizing international participation. They also emphasized presenting Baghdad as a symbol of urban and cultural revival.

Organizers aim to ensure the Arab Architecture Festival attracts wide attention across the Middle East. They want the festival to reflect Baghdad’s ability to engage with both cultural and urban challenges. Furthermore, the event will underline Iraq’s readiness to step onto the global stage of architecture. The festival promises exhibitions, interactive workshops, and presentations that celebrate Arab creativity and innovation.
