Qatar Promotes Cultural Exchange Through New Ceramic Residency

Qatar continues to strengthen cultural ties through the Qatar ceramic residency project. Indeed, this vibrant initiative builds directly on the success of the Qatar-Indonesia Year of Culture. As a result, the program, based in Doha, now welcomes renowned Indonesian ceramicist Francisca “Kika” to collaborate with Qatari artists. Therefore, the Qatar ceramic residency project promotes not only artistic partnerships but also traditional craftsmanship and meaningful cultural storytelling.

Moreover, the residency runs in collaboration with Liwan Design Studios and Labs. Consequently, it encourages both creativity and mutual cultural exchange. During the program, Kika works closely with local artists and craftspeople. Together, they create unique ceramics inspired equally by Qatari and Indonesian heritage. In fact, the Qatar ceramic residency project shows how hands-on work can deepen artistic dialogue while blending modern and traditional techniques.

Additionally, community involvement remains central to the program’s success. Every week, Pottery Fun Classes warmly welcome local residents to learn directly from Kika. Through these classes, participants explore clay hand-building and wheel techniques. Furthermore, they actively contribute to the artworks developed during the Qatar clay arts residency.

Kika first visited Qatar during the 2023 Year of Culture. At that time, she introduced her inclusive teaching style to eager local audiences. Since then, her return has offered a deeper and more immersive experience. Hence, this visit helps Qatari and Indonesian artists exchange skills, strengthen friendships, and explore new creative directions.

Eventually, the project ends with a group exhibition featuring the artworks created during the residency. Not only does this event showcase ceramic talent, but it also symbolizes unity, innovation, and cultural cooperation. Clearly, the Qatar ceramic residency project brings artists together and builds long-lasting cultural bridges.

Ultimately, the Qatar ceramic residency project supports Qatar’s broader goals in global cultural leadership. In addition, it highlights the country’s strong commitment to the arts, heritage, and cross-cultural collaboration. Through this engaging initiative, Qatar both celebrates its traditions and fosters meaningful global connections.
