Sheikh Mansour Award Accelerates Sustainable Farming and Food Security in the UAE

Agricultural innovation in the UAE continues to expand as national initiatives strengthen modern farming and food security. In Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Mansour Agricultural Excellence Award reflects this shift clearly. From the start, the initiative highlights how technology and planning now shape agriculture nationwide.

During the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba, the Award pavilion hosted a focused panel discussion. The session explored how innovation supports sustainability and long-term food stability. Moreover, officials, farmers, and entrepreneurs attended, showing strong sector engagement and shared ambition.

Hamed Al Hamed, head of the Emirates Agricultural Pioneers Association, led the discussion with practical insights. He explained that the Award supports farmers through guidance, exposure, and institutional growth. As a result, participants gain tools that extend beyond financial incentives.

Furthermore, Al Hamed noted that agricultural innovation in the UAE has reshaped farming into a strategic economic activity. Agriculture now depends on science, planning, and branding rather than traditional methods alone. Consequently, farms operate as connected ecosystems that create lasting value.

Drawing from experience at Gracia Agricultural Group, Al Hamed described this transformation clearly. The group operates across more than 30 modern agriculture sectors. Therefore, it represents a national model for integrated, innovation-driven farming.

At the same time, he emphasized that awards encourage farmers to raise standards consistently. Participation motivates improvement, learning, and competition. Meanwhile, shared experiences help farmers avoid setbacks and adopt proven practices faster.

Despite environmental challenges, farming conditions remain manageable across the UAE. Strong infrastructure and clear policies continue to support agricultural growth. In addition, consistent government backing enables experimentation and long-term investment.

Al Hamed stressed that technology serves as a practical tool rather than an end goal. Farmers must apply innovation strategically to improve quality and efficiency. For instance, smart systems now guide water use and nutrient distribution accurately.

Gracia Group relies on artificial intelligence to support daily farm decisions. These systems analyze data and improve productivity steadily. As a result, farms achieve higher yields with fewer resources.

Equally important, cooperation among farmers strengthens the entire agricultural sector. Knowledge exchange accelerates progress and reduces risk. Therefore, collaboration remains essential for sustainable growth.

The UAE faces extreme water scarcity and limited arable land. Desert terrain covers more than three quarters of the country. However, innovative farming methods help overcome these constraints effectively.

Accordingly, the country adopted hydroponic and vertical farming systems widely. These methods reduce water use significantly while saving land space. They also ensure stable production throughout the year.

Between 2014 and 2019, agriculture sector value rose steadily. This growth surpassed several countries with richer water resources. International data confirms this achievement clearly.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment continues to support modern farming tools. Hydroponic systems save up to 90 percent of water. They also reduce land usage by nearly 99 percent.

Vertical farms operate with automation and consistent output. Therefore, food availability improves despite climate pressures. This approach strengthens national resilience effectively.

Ultimately, agricultural innovation in the UAE supports sustainability, food security, and economic diversification. The Sheikh Mansour Award continues to inspire farmers across the country. As a result, modern agriculture now stands as a key pillar of future development.
