School Hours Policy Announced in UAE

The UAE government has introduced a new school hours policy to support parents at the start of the academic year. This initiative aims to help families manage drop-offs and pick-ups while maintaining workplace productivity.

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) confirmed that parents working in federal ministries and entities will benefit from flexible timing. On the first day of school, employees may adjust arrival and departure times to accompany children. The maximum duration of flexibility allowed on that day is three hours.

For parents of nursery and kindergarten students, the school hours policy provides extended support. Flexibility of up to three hours daily will be permitted for an entire week. Authorities explained that this period allows families to adapt smoothly to new routines.

In addition, the policy applies to important school-related events throughout the year. Parents may take up to three hours of work time to attend parent-teacher meetings, graduation ceremonies, and other school functions. FAHR emphasized that this ensures parents can stay actively involved in their children’s education.

Officials stated that flexibility will be granted in line with existing workplace systems. Each case will require approval from the employee’s direct manager. Furthermore, FAHR noted that school calendars vary across curricula in the UAE, so institutions must remain mindful of these differences when approving adjustments.

Leaders highlighted that the school hours policy reflects the UAE’s commitment to supporting families and promoting work-life balance. It recognizes the role of parents in shaping student success while ensuring government operations remain efficient.

In conclusion, the school hours policy offers a practical solution that balances professional duties with family responsibilities. The initiative strengthens the UAE’s vision of social development, workplace innovation, and educational excellence.
