At the 34th Arab League Summit in Baghdad, Saudi Arabia took a bold stand on major regional issues. On Saturday, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir made powerful declarations that underscored the unwavering Saudi stance on Arab stability.
First and foremost, al-Jubeir strongly opposed the forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland. He firmly called for a fully independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Throughout his address, he demanded an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, while rejecting any proposals that overlook Palestinian rights.
“This region cannot see peace without justice,” he said, stressing the urgency of a two-state solution based on 1967 borders. The international community, he argued, must act now. This declaration reinforced the long-standing Saudi stance on Arab stability in the region.
Shifting focus, al-Jubeir also slammed Israeli airstrikes in Syria, calling them violations of sovereignty. He voiced strong support for Syria’s reconstruction and welcomed the U.S. decision to ease sanctions on Damascus. This decision, announced during President Donald Trump’s visit to Riyadh, opens the door for Syria’s recovery.
Turning to Sudan, al-Jubeir stressed the need for open dialogue and humanitarian access. He confirmed Saudi Arabia’s firm dedication to peace in Sudan. The Kingdom remains committed to helping civilians and ending hostilities through diplomatic efforts.
Regarding Lebanon, al-Jubeir threw support behind institutional reforms. He insisted that only the Lebanese state should control arms, not militias or factions.
After al-Jubeir’s impactful address, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid announced the start of a private summit session. Arab leaders will now discuss strategies behind closed doors.
Clearly, the Saudi stance on Arab stability dominated the summit’s opening. With bold remarks and strong policy clarity, the Kingdom positioned itself as a key voice for regional peace.
