Saudi Arabia Strengthens Online Protection of Intellectual Property

Saudi Arabia strengthens online protection of intellectual property to address growing digital threats. As technology advances, artificial intelligence transforms daily life, reshaping how people create, share, and protect content. While AI offers innovation, it also increases the risk of digital identity theft and unauthorized use of creative work.

Content creators, especially online personalities, face unique challenges. PikaLoli, a Saudi VTuber, explained how vital it is to guard her digital identity. “My character and brand exist only online, so I must prevent copying or misuse,” she said. She creates gaming videos, roleplays, and storytelling, combining technology and creativity to engage her audience. She handles voice acting, video editing, directing, and content design herself.

Despite AI’s potential, PikaLoli remains cautious. She treats AI as a helpful assistant, not a replacement for her unique voice and energy. She also relies on her community to recognize and support her content, which reduces the risk of impersonation. Moreover, she monitors her work on secure platforms to prevent misuse.

Digital identity theft affects millions worldwide. In France, more than 200,000 people suffer annually. Offenders face strict penalties, including fines and imprisonment. In Saudi Arabia, the government has developed strong regulations to tackle similar threats.

The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) actively protects citizens’ and residents’ creative works. SAIP encourages everyone to register copyrights, trademarks, and patents online. Fahad Alzamil, SAIP spokesperson, explained that these registrations help creators safeguard their ideas and digital identity.

Article 17 of Saudi Arabia’s Copyright Law protects both traditional and AI-generated images or audiovisual content. It forbids publishing or sharing a person’s photo without permission. In addition, the Personal Data Protection Law and the Anti-Cybercrime Law shield individuals’ personal information and prevent misuse.

SAIP also uses advanced monitoring tools and awareness campaigns to enforce regulations effectively. The authority collaborates with international organizations, ensuring Saudi rules meet global standards. Fahad Alzamil emphasized that protecting intellectual property requires both legal action and community awareness.

As AI expands creative possibilities, Saudi Arabia strengthens online protection of intellectual property. Creators must remain vigilant, while regulators focus on secure systems. Awareness, responsibility, and cooperation remain key to safeguarding digital identity. Transitioning between innovation and security ensures creators can thrive safely in the digital era.

Saudi Arabia strengthens online protection of intellectual property, ensuring creators enjoy safe environments to innovate. By combining strong laws, technology, and education, the country balances creativity and security.
