Saudi Arabia Prepares for Eid as Ramadan Nears Its End

Eid moon sighting is creating excitement across Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries as the holy month of Ramadan comes to a close. Authorities expect the Shawwal crescent to appear on the evening of March 18, 2026. People will begin scanning the sky just after sunset to confirm the sighting.

In Saudi Arabia, observers focus on clear areas where the thin crescent is easiest to see. The visibility window usually lasts between 20 and 40 minutes depending on location and weather. Experts encourage citizens to watch carefully because the first sighting determines the start of Eid.

If officials confirm the crescent, Eid al-Fitr will begin Thursday, March 19. Many Gulf nations, including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain, usually follow Saudi Arabia’s announcement. This makes the Eid moon sighting significant not only for the Kingdom but also for the wider region.

However, if clouds or other conditions prevent the crescent from being seen, authorities will extend Ramadan to complete 30 days. In that case, Eid will be celebrated on Friday, March 20. Communities prepare for either scenario, organizing prayers, family gatherings, and charitable activities.

Saudi religious authorities stress the importance of the sighting for Islamic tradition. Therefore, citizens and visitors alike follow announcements closely. Schools, government offices, and businesses often adjust schedules based on the official confirmation of Eid.

Transitioning from fasting to celebration, the Eid moon sighting signals a period of joy, reflection, and community. Markets will open with festive goods, and mosques will host morning prayers for large congregations. Families plan meals, exchange greetings, and support charitable causes, reinforcing social bonds.

Meanwhile, travel arrangements for holiday visits increase, especially in urban areas like Riyadh and Jeddah. Hotels and transportation services prepare for higher demand as people return home or visit relatives. Authorities ensure safety measures are in place during the festive period.

Overall, Eid moon sighting marks both a religious milestone and a cultural event. Communities across Saudi Arabia and neighboring Gulf countries eagerly anticipate celebrations. The crescent’s appearance brings joy, signals the end of Ramadan, and sets the tone for family and social gatherings.
