Saudi Arabia Boosts Tourism Workforce

Saudi Arabia has introduced new tourism workforce regulations, aiming to empower citizens and strengthen the Kingdom’s hospitality sector. These rules mark a major step in ensuring Saudi nationals play a central role in tourism growth. Local workforce empowerment drives this initiative, giving citizens access to key positions in hotels, resorts, and cultural sites.

The new policy requires all licensed tourism establishments to employ Saudi nationals in important roles, such as receptionists and front-desk staff. By implementing this, the Kingdom ensures that visitors experience a uniquely Saudi hospitality service, reflecting local culture and values. In addition, all employment contracts must be registered through official systems like the Ajeer platform, guaranteeing transparency and compliance.

Furthermore, the regulations prohibit outsourcing Saudized roles to foreign firms, except through Ministry-approved subcontractors. This ensures local workforce empowerment and strengthens the presence of Saudi citizens across the tourism sector. The government also emphasizes career development opportunities, allowing youth and new graduates to grow into leadership positions. Consequently, this approach not only boosts employment but also enhances service quality in hotels, resorts, and tourist attractions.

The tourism sector has grown rapidly in recent years, supported by massive government investments and initiatives under Saudi Vision 2030. With luxury resorts, iconic attractions, and expanded visa programs, the Kingdom positions itself as a global tourism hub. By prioritizing Saudi nationals in the workforce, the country aligns economic diversification goals with local workforce empowerment, fostering a sustainable and inclusive employment ecosystem.

Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al Khateeb highlighted the regulations’ benefits. He said they will ensure service standards meet international expectations. The policies also reflect the Kingdom’s commitment to creating high-quality jobs. They will enhance the competitiveness of Saudi Arabia’s tourism industry worldwide.

By combining strategic workforce policies with Vision 2030’s long-term objectives, Saudi Arabia sets a clear path toward a robust, locally empowered tourism workforce. Tourists can now enjoy authentic interactions with skilled Saudi employees, while citizens gain meaningful opportunities to develop careers in hospitality.

In summary, these tourism workforce regulations represent a pivotal moment for Saudi Arabia. Through local workforce empowerment, the Kingdom not only strengthens its economic diversification efforts but also enhances its global reputation as a culturally rich and visitor-friendly destination.
