Qatar has reported positive progress in the latest round of indirect talks between the United States and Iran, with both sides agreeing to continue negotiations in the coming weeks.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said mediators from Qatar and Pakistan held separate meetings with the US and Iranian delegations in Doha. The discussions focused on implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and built on outcomes reached during last month’s Lake Lucerne Summit.
According to Al-Ansari, the next round of talks will be scheduled as soon as possible after the funeral processions for Iran’s former supreme leader.
US President Donald Trump welcomed the progress made during the negotiations, while Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the two sides had agreed to establish a communication channel to report and document any violations of the memorandum.
The discussions remained indirect, in line with Tehran’s position against direct negotiations. They also covered the implementation of a 60-day ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a roadmap toward a broader agreement on the conflict and Iran’s nuclear programme, as well as the issue of frozen Iranian assets.
