Qatar Official Urges Journalism Graduates to Defend Truth and Honor Fallen Reporters

The Qatar journalism graduation address delivered at Northwestern University in Qatar highlighted the role of journalists in defending truth and ethical reporting. Majed Al-Ansari, adviser to the prime minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke directly to graduating students in Doha. He called on them to protect credibility in a media landscape shaped by speed and competition.

The ceremony brought together graduates, faculty members, and families at the Doha campus. It also marked the graduation of the Class of 2026 from Northwestern University in Qatar. The Qatar journalism graduation address emphasized the responsibility that comes with entering the media profession at a time of global information challenges.

Al-Ansari reflected on his own experience during major political events, including the 2017 blockade on Qatar. He described working in media-facing roles and engaging with international audiences during that period. He said those experiences shaped his understanding of how narratives form and spread during crises. The Qatar journalism graduation address used these reflections to highlight the complexity of modern communication.

He also warned graduates about the growing pressure in digital media environments. According to him, journalism has shifted toward speed and visibility rather than accuracy. He encouraged students to prioritize facts over popularity. He stressed that credibility remains the foundation of responsible reporting.

Al-Ansari paid tribute to journalists who lost their lives while reporting from conflict zones. He mentioned Gaza, Lebanon, and Sudan as regions where reporters faced extreme risks. He described journalism as more than a profession, calling it a duty that sometimes demands great sacrifice. This message formed a key part of the Qatar journalism graduation address.

He further explained that public communication roles require balancing personal voice with national representation. Once a spokesperson assumes office, individual identity often takes a back seat. He said this transition demands discipline and awareness of responsibility.

The speech also addressed challenges facing modern media systems. He pointed to the rise of agenda-driven reporting and information overload. He urged graduates to resist distortion and maintain integrity in their work. The Qatar journalism graduation address reinforced the importance of independent thinking in journalism careers.

Northwestern University in Qatar, located in Education City, offers programs in journalism, communication, and liberal arts. The institution continues to train students for global media careers. Officials at the ceremony highlighted the importance of ethical storytelling in shaping public understanding.

The event concluded with recognition of the graduating class and their academic achievements. The message left a strong focus on truth, responsibility, and the future of journalism.
