Qatar Leads First Arab Cyber Exercise to Strengthen Regional Digital Security

Qatar recently hosted the first Arab Cyber Exercise, showing the importance of a cross-border cybersecurity drill in the region. The event brought together participants from 21 Arab nations and focused on teamwork, learning, and readiness against digital attacks. Organizers said the exercise improves regional security while helping teams gain practical skills to handle cyber problems.

The exercise happened as part of the 12th National Cyber Drill, led by the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA). Officials explained that a cross-border cybersecurity drill lets teams face realistic threats targeting important services. Teams tested response plans, worked together, and found areas needing improvement to be better prepared.

Participants worked on scenarios designed to match each country’s cybersecurity systems. They faced fake attacks on government, energy, and communication sectors. Experts said this method helps teams improve strategies and recover faster during real attacks. The drill also builds trust and cooperation among Arab nations, strengthening a united regional approach to digital safety.

Officials added that these drills help both organizations and economies grow stronger. Lessons from past National Cyber Drills, held every year since 2013, have made countries more ready. Each drill helps close gaps, improve response speed, and protect society during cyber incidents.

The Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers said the exercise marks an important step in regional cooperation. Sharing knowledge lets Arab nations face cyber threats more effectively. Industry leaders praised Qatar for leading this effort and promoting awareness of digital risks.

Al-Hammadi, Director General of NCSA, said cross-border threats need teams to stay alert and ready at all times. He noted that the exercise was carefully planned to reflect real challenges while giving participants valuable experience.

By hosting the first Arab Cyber Exercise, Qatar shows leadership in digital security. Promoting teamwork, learning, and readiness, the cross-border cybersecurity drill protects national systems and strengthens the Arab region’s overall cyber defense.
