Qatar Food Security Committee Pushes to Ensure Smooth Goods Flow

The Qatar food security committee is taking active steps to ensure smooth goods flow into the country amid regional challenges. The Food Security and Environment Committee of Qatar Chamber (QC) recently held a meeting to review trade facilitation and address private sector concerns.

The session, chaired by Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Obaidli, included representatives from the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Qatar Airways, the General Authority of Customs, and business leaders. Discussions focused on how to maintain the continuous flow of goods despite regional disruptions.

Committee members highlighted key challenges faced by the private sector, including rising shipping costs, import difficulties, and operational constraints. They also examined measures already implemented by public authorities and assessed their impact on trade efficiency.

Mohammed Al-Coaid praised the responsiveness of public agencies, noting that the Chamber received several reports regarding logistics, storage, and transportation issues. He also emphasized the Chamber’s commitment to presenting private sector concerns to the Federation of GCC Chambers. This step aims to accelerate solutions that facilitate trade and ensure markets remain supplied.

Youset Al-Hammadi, Director of Land Customs Department, stated that the Authority is coordinating with GCC counterparts to streamline commercial shipments. This effort aims to meet local market demands efficiently, even as regional challenges persist.

Ali Al-Yate from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to maintaining product availability. Overall, he described mechanisms for registering goods through the Goods and Services Registration System to enhance monitoring and oversight.

Al-Yate also noted that the ministry held several strategic meetings with logistics companies across land, sea, and air transport. These sessions included discussions with major consumer goods suppliers and leading manufacturers to ensure uninterrupted trade.

The Qatar food security committee stressed that continuous collaboration between public authorities and private businesses remains crucial. They concluded that proactive coordination, transparency, and swift action are key to stabilizing the market and safeguarding citizens’ access to essential goods.

The committee’s efforts reflect Qatar’s commitment to food security, trade facilitation, and efficient supply chain management amid complex regional dynamics.
