Qatar Earns Late World Cup Draw Against Switzerland

Qatar secured a dramatic late point after a stoppage-time own goal earned a 1-1 draw against Switzerland in a tense World Cup Group B encounter.

Switzerland had led for much of the match after Breel Embolo converted a first-half penalty, with the European side also creating several clear chances but failing to extend their advantage.

Qatar, however, pushed forward in the closing stages and were rewarded in the 94th minute when a pressured defensive header was diverted into the net from Homam Ahmed’s cross, sparking celebrations among the home support.

The result marked Qatar’s first point of the tournament and left Group B finely balanced, with all teams level after the opening round of matches.

The Swiss will be left to reflect on missed opportunities, having registered numerous attempts without finding a decisive second goal, while Qatar’s disciplined defensive effort ensured they remained within reach until the final moments.

Both sides now turn their attention to their next group fixtures as the race to qualify for the knockout stages remains open.
