Qatar Condemns Iranian Strikes on Kurdistan Region

Qatar has condemned Iran’s latest strikes on Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, describing them as a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and international law as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to rise.

In a statement issued by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Doha denounced the attacks as a “blatant violation” of the sovereignty of both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The ministry also reaffirmed Qatar’s full solidarity with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

The statement followed overnight drone and missile strikes that targeted several locations in Erbil and Sulaimani provinces. Kurdish authorities said multiple drones were intercepted over Erbil by coalition forces without causing casualties.

In Sulaimani province, Iranian Kurdish opposition group Komala said six missiles struck one of its bases, killing at least nine members and injuring several others. A senior member of the group’s leadership blamed Iran for the attack.

The Kurdistan Region’s Presidency and Government separately condemned the strikes, calling them a dangerous escalation and a breach of Iraq’s sovereignty. They urged Tehran to halt the attacks and called on Baghdad and the international community to take steps to prevent further violations.

The latest strikes come as military exchanges between Iran and the United States continue to intensify. The US Central Command said it had completed a seventh consecutive night of operations against Iranian targets, while Iran’s military announced strikes on US military sites in Kuwait and Jordan in response to the American campaign.
