In a significant move to improve road safety, the Cabinet has approved a draft Qatar traffic law and referred it to the Shura Council for further review. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
The new draft is part of the Ministry of Interior’s strategic plan. It focuses on regulating traffic, enhancing road safety, and adapting to evolving infrastructure and technologies. Notably, the legislation aims to modernize enforcement methods to better detect and reduce traffic violations.
Importantly, the Qatar traffic law update reflects the country’s rapid development in road networks, vehicle technologies, and public safety mechanisms. By incorporating new tools and smarter systems, the law aims to create a safer driving environment for all residents.
At the start of the session, the Cabinet also praised the launch of the National Data and Statistics Strategy. This new initiative focuses on building an advanced, interconnected data system to support national planning. It includes the use of AI, big data, and digital infrastructure to enhance statistical accuracy and reliability.
