Qatar Cabinet Approves Draft Traffic Law to Boost Safety and Regulation

In a significant move to improve road safety, the Cabinet has approved a draft Qatar traffic law and referred it to the Shura Council for further review. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

The new draft is part of the Ministry of Interior’s strategic plan. It focuses on regulating traffic, enhancing road safety, and adapting to evolving infrastructure and technologies. Notably, the legislation aims to modernize enforcement methods to better detect and reduce traffic violations.

Importantly, the Qatar traffic law update reflects the country’s rapid development in road networks, vehicle technologies, and public safety mechanisms. By incorporating new tools and smarter systems, the law aims to create a safer driving environment for all residents.

At the start of the session, the Cabinet also praised the launch of the National Data and Statistics Strategy. This new initiative focuses on building an advanced, interconnected data system to support national planning. It includes the use of AI, big data, and digital infrastructure to enhance statistical accuracy and reliability.

In addition, the Cabinet approved an amendment to reorganize the Permanent Committee for Addiction Treatment Affairs. This change ensures the committee is aligned with updated administrative structures, boosting its efficiency and effectiveness.

The Cabinet also approved the draft Core Contribution Agreement for 2025–2026 between the Qatar Fund for Development and UNHCR. Furthermore, it endorsed memoranda of understanding with news agencies in Tunisia, Vietnam, and Guinea-Bissau.

Finally, the Cabinet reviewed reports from the Standing Committee for Rescue and Humanitarian Aid and assessed the outcomes of Qatar’s participation in the Expo 2025 Osaka.
