Omani Film “Forbidden Flowers” Wins Award In Morocco

The Omani film Forbidden Flowers has won the Best Director award at the fourth edition of the Atlas International Film Festival held in Morocco, marking a notable recognition for emerging cinema from the Gulf region.

Directed by Dalila Ali Al Durei, the film was praised for its storytelling and its focus on human and social themes. After receiving the award, the director said the recognition reflects the film’s emotional depth and its ability to connect with both audiences and jury members.

Forbidden Flowers tells the story of two sisters living in a rural village who face repeated mistreatment within their community. As the story develops, it highlights difficult social realities experienced by some girls in closed environments.

The film had already gained regional attention after winning second place in the “Tawasul” Short Film Competition organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in Oman in 2025.

The latest recognition highlights the gradual rise of Gulf cinema on international platforms, where filmmakers are increasingly using film to explore social issues and personal narratives.

Held in Morocco, the Atlas International Film Festival continues to serve as a platform for Arab and international independent films, reflecting growing cultural exchange within the region.
