Oman Unveils Major Social and Economic Reforms to Boost Citizens’ Welfare

Oman unveiled major social and economic reforms on the sixth anniversary of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s accession. These initiatives focus on improving citizens’ welfare and advancing the country’s growth under a national development strategy. The announcement highlights Oman’s commitment to a clear and long-term national development strategy.

The reforms cover employment, education, housing, as well as social protection. The government will implement them as part of the Eleventh Five-Year Development Plan (2026–2030). These measures aim to raise living standards and stimulate inclusive economic growth.

In economic development, the government allocated OMR 50 million for projects that generate jobs and boost local investment. Additionally, the Governorates Development Program’s budget will increase from OMR 220 million to OMR 270 million. These funds will support initiatives that directly benefit communities and create employment opportunities.

Education programs will provide financial aid to more than 73,000 students. Families registered under the Family Support System in the Royal Oman Police records will receive doubled grants for school supplies through the Social Protection Fund. These steps help students and their families, reinforcing Oman’s national development strategy.

However, social protection programs will expand as well. The Family Support Grant system now covers over 57,000 families, and total beneficiaries of social programs are expected to reach 1.6 million citizens this year. These reforms ensure broader support for low-income households.

The Job Seekers Employment Program will create 60,000 jobs, including 10,000 in government sectors and 50,000 in private companies and government-owned firms. These efforts aim to strengthen Oman’s workforce and enhance livelihoods.

Housing support will receive OMR 100 million for the Social Housing Program in 2026 and 2027. The program provides affordable and secure homes for eligible citizens. Furthermore, the Job Security Allowance will extend from six months to one year for qualifying individuals.

These reforms show Oman’s commitment to balanced growth, social welfare, and economic stability. While focusing on citizens’ needs, the national development strategy sets a clear path for the country’s future.
