Oman Strengthens Role in UNESCO Talks on Cultural Diversity

Oman UNESCO participation showcased the country’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity at an international level. Officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth represented the Sultanate at the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The meetings, held from February 17-20 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, gathered States Parties working to safeguard cultural heritage and support artistic initiatives worldwide.

Delegates discussed applying the Convention in digital spaces and reviewed operational guidelines. Oman UNESCO participation stressed the need for strong frameworks to protect cultural content. Officials also highlighted the importance of fair access to digital markets and platforms. The Sultanate showcased policies designed to adapt to the digital environment and empower artists and creators.

The committee evaluated the International Fund for Cultural Diversity and approved new projects under its 16th funding cycle. Oman contributed to discussions on supporting developing countries. Delegates emphasized that international collaboration strengthens national cultures and protects diversity globally.
