Oman Marks Start of Ramadan 1447 AH Amid Nationwide Preparations

Oman officially announced the start of Ramadan 1447 AH, confirming Thursday, 19 February 2026, as the first day of the holy month. The announcement followed astronomical observations and scientific verification, ensuring the sighting of the crescent moon was accurate. Authorities stressed the importance of adhering to established procedures and scientific facts in determining the lunar calendar.

The Main Committee for Moon Sighting confirmed that on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, the moon set before or at sunset in all governorates of Oman. This made crescent moon sighting astronomically impossible. Consequently, Wednesday, 18 February, will complete the month of Sha’ban 1447 AH, paving the way for Thursday to mark the start of Ramadan.

Officials highlighted the religious and cultural significance of the month. Ramadan represents a period of spiritual reflection, fasting, and acts of charity. Communities across Oman are preparing for traditions that strengthen family bonds and promote social cohesion. Mosques, cultural centers, and community organizations are coordinating educational programs to guide citizens and residents through the month.

The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs extended warm congratulations to Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, praying for his health, well-being, and continued leadership. The ministry also expressed wishes for prosperity, dignity, and honor for Oman and its citizens during the start of Ramadan. Muslims worldwide were included in these prayers, emphasizing unity, peace, and devotion.

Authorities encouraged citizens to follow health and safety protocols while attending communal prayers and public events. They also urged individuals to engage in charitable deeds, community service, and spiritual enrichment throughout Ramadan. Government departments and social organizations are actively coordinating support programs to ensure that fasting and other religious practices remain accessible to all citizens and residents.

Community leaders called for mutual respect and tolerance during this sacred period. They emphasized that Ramadan offers an opportunity to strengthen societal harmony, promote empathy, and reflect on national and personal values. Educational campaigns will continue throughout the month, highlighting the cultural, social, and spiritual importance of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

With the official announcement, Oman is now ready to embrace a holy month marked by devotion, generosity, and cultural heritage. Citizens and residents are encouraged to honor traditions while maintaining social responsibility and community solidarity.
