Oman Joins Global Council to Protect Children

Oman participated in the inaugural meeting of the Council of Champions to End Violence Against Children, held in Geneva on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly.

The Omani delegation was led by Dr. Hilal Al Sabti, the country’s Minister of Health and a member of the leadership council involved in the initiative. The gathering brought together ministers, senior officials, and international figures to discuss global efforts aimed at improving children’s well-being and reducing violence against minors.

The Council of Champions to End Violence Against Children focuses on strengthening international cooperation around child protection, health, and development issues that governments and global organisations increasingly consider urgent humanitarian priorities.

Participants exchanged approaches and policy perspectives intended to accelerate coordinated international action, while also encouraging stronger collaboration between countries on child welfare initiatives.

Oman said its participation reflects the country’s continued engagement in international humanitarian and health-related initiatives, particularly within United Nations platforms linked to childhood development and sustainable development goals.

The meeting also highlighted the growing role Gulf countries are seeking to play in global public health discussions, as regional governments expand cooperation on humanitarian and social development issues beyond traditional diplomatic and economic areas.

Through its involvement in the Council of Champions to End Violence Against Children, Oman reinforced its presence in international health forums and broader discussions surrounding long-term child protection strategies.
