Oman Economic Forum Drives Vision 2040 Progress

Muscat hosted the fourth edition of the “Together Moving Forward” forum, emphasizing Oman Vision 2040 as the central theme. The forum brings government and society together to share ideas, highlight opportunities, and discuss national priorities.

The event opened with a keynote address highlighting public participation. Citizens submitted proposals, voted on discussion topics, and contributed ideas for economic growth. Oman Vision 2040 topped the votes, reflecting strong interest in the country’s long-term strategic plan. The forum registered over 8,600 online participants, with more than 2,000 attending in person to ensure diverse representation.

Moreover, the forum focused on several key areas: achievements of Oman Vision 2040, investment prospects in priority sectors, and governorate-level development. Leaders from the economic, transport, tourism, and investment sectors shared progress updates and plans. Investment in communications, digital technology, and artificial intelligence reached significant milestones over the past five years.

Discussions highlighted how the industrial sector contributes over 10 percent to GDP, while non-oil merchandise exports grew 8.3 percent. Tourism has also flourished, with nearly 4 million visitors and RO 1.1 billion in revenue by the end of 2025. Domestic tourism attracted about 14 million visitors, showcasing Oman’s growing appeal.

Governorate development was a central focus. Officials shared strategies to enhance investment, food security, agriculture, logistics, and renewable energy. Several projects were highlighted, including a major agricultural city, green hydrogen initiatives, and road infrastructure improvements. Forums across other governorates will now allow citizens to propose local development priorities directly.

However, the “Ideas Makers – Hamat” initiative was launched to turn innovative concepts into actionable projects. It received over 1,400 submissions, focusing on tourism, public company challenges, and technology localization. Nine teams advanced to the final round, showing strong entrepreneurial engagement nationwide.

The forum concluded with an exhibition highlighting government-private sector collaboration, national achievements, as well as ongoing initiatives. Participants observed tangible examples of how Oman Vision 2040 drives sustainable development, economic diversification, and investment growth.

Through these efforts, Oman strengthens public engagement, investment opportunities, and long-term planning, showing a clear commitment to national progress and innovation.
