Oman Accelerates Fiber Expansion to Boost Digital Connectivity Nationwide

Oman is rapidly advancing its digital infrastructure, aiming to connect one million homes to high-speed fiber-optic networks. This fiber expansion reflects the country’s commitment to strengthening digital connectivity, supporting public services, businesses, and education. With the government and private partners working closely together, Oman is making significant strides toward nationwide internet access.

Oman Broadband has already reached 926,884 residential units by the end of November 2025. Muscat Governorate accounts for 415,792 of these units, while 511,092 are spread across other regions. Subscriber numbers continue to rise, with active connections surpassing 326,406. This growth demonstrates strong public demand for improved broadband services.

Network coverage in Muscat has exceeded 87 percent of homes, and outside the capital, coverage stands at around 56 percent. Oman Broadband plans to accelerate its fiber rollout to meet the one-million-unit target within the next three years. The company is also expanding partnerships with public and private stakeholders to enhance network reach and quality.

The fiber expansion extends to emerging urban developments, including Sultan Haitham City, Al Khuwair Downtown, and A’Thuraya City. These areas are designed with smart-city standards in mind, ensuring infrastructure can support high-speed internet for homes, offices, schools, and government facilities. Oman Broadband is prioritizing future-ready technology, which will allow the country to stay competitive in the digital economy.

Since 2014, Oman Broadband has invested over RO 327 million in telecommunications infrastructure. Recent expansions include the wilayats of Bukha and Dibba in Musandam Governorate, while earlier projects covered Khasab and Madha. The company continues to extend fiber access to additional governorates, enabling broader regional connectivity.

Alongside network growth, Oman Broadband emphasizes local workforce development and SME engagement. Over 99 percent of employees are Omani, and 39 percent of awarded work has gone to small and medium-sized enterprises. The company also invests in social initiatives, supporting education, health, sports, and youth empowerment.

The ongoing fiber expansion demonstrates Oman’s commitment to digital connectivity, improving quality of life and supporting economic growth. While linking urban and rural areas with reliable, high-speed internet, Oman Broadband ensures residents and institutions can fully participate in the digital world. This initiative strengthens Oman’s position as a regional leader in modern telecommunications infrastructure.
