Kuwait’s New Health and Safety Regulations Bring Stricter Rules for Salons and Gyms

Kuwait’s new health and safety regulations are reshaping the beauty and fitness industries. The Ministry of Health recently introduced strict guidelines for salons, gyms, and health centers. These rules aim to improve hygiene, transparency, and child safety in one of Kuwait’s fastest-growing sectors.

Therefore, the updated regulations require businesses to display licensed price lists inside their premises. Many salons currently share prices only on Instagram or booking apps. Additionally, employees must now wear visible ID badges. Staff must also obtain health fitness certificates proving they are free of contagious diseases.

Moreover, to get these certificates, workers must undergo medical checks and vaccinations at approved centers. The Sahel app will manage appointments and records. No employee can start working without this clearance. The rules also ban homemade herbal treatments in salons. Instead, businesses must use only approved cosmetic products with clear expiry dates.

Furthermore, Salons must now install washbasins near haircut stations, a feature rarely seen before. The regulations also prohibit tattooing, permanent makeup, and ear-piercing without special permits. Workers with skin infections must cover wounds with waterproof bandages. Additionally, salons cannot photograph or record clients without permission.

Kuwait’s new health and safety regulations place special emphasis on protecting children. Kids visiting gyms must present a valid health fitness certificate from their local clinic. Facilities must keep records of these documents. Parents must give consent for minors, and certified trainers must supervise all activities.

Swimming pools need both a coach and a lifeguard. The rules ban dietary supplements for children unless prescribed by a specialist. Weightlifting machines are strictly prohibited for kids. Trainers must guide children on proper equipment use to prevent injuries.

In children’s salons, only mild, fragrance-free products are allowed. Hair dyes and intensive skin treatments are banned. Parents or guardians must accompany kids at all times. Products with harmful chemicals like parabens are also prohibited. Fake tanning for under-18s is now illegal.

Kuwait’s new health and safety regulations respond to growing trends of children using cosmetics. Many kids now wear makeup, get hair treatments, or even spray tans. Health experts warn that children’s skin is thinner and more sensitive. Harsh ingredients in adult skincare can cause irritation or long-term harm.

Studies show early exposure to fragranced sprays and nail polish may pose risks. Research from Northwestern University found kids on TikTok seeing skincare ads with potential allergens. Pediatric specialists urge caution, as some chemicals may disrupt hormones over time.

These regulations mark a major shift in Kuwait’s salon and gym industries. Businesses must now follow stricter hygiene and transparency rules. Child safety remains a top priority as cosmetic use among kids rises. With these changes, Kuwait aims to create a safer environment for all consumers.
