Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has closed a commercial outlet after inspectors seized 1,399 used and refurbished air conditioner compressors that were allegedly sold with misleading origin labels.
The ministry’s Emergency Team for Ahmadi and Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorates, operating under the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Department, discovered the violations during inspection campaigns targeting several businesses.
According to the ministry, the shop had removed the original country-of-origin labels from the compressors and replaced them with inaccurate labels to mislead consumers. Officials said the practice appeared aimed at taking advantage of increased demand for air conditioning equipment during the summer season.
The seized compressors included different brands and sizes, and authorities took legal action against the business. The shop was immediately closed, and the case was referred to the relevant authorities for further legal procedures.
The ministry said inspection campaigns will continue to ensure compliance with consumer protection regulations and prevent commercial practices that could harm customers or affect market transparency.
