Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has arrested a suspect accused of promoting marijuana through social media content as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offences.
In a statement, the ministry said the General Directorate for Combating Drugs monitored posts in which the individual allegedly portrayed marijuana as harmless and shared misleading information that encouraged its use, particularly among young people.
Following an investigation, security authorities identified and detained the suspect. According to the ministry, the individual admitted during questioning that the videos had been published through a personal social media account.
The suspect has been referred to the relevant authorities after legal procedures were completed.
The Ministry of Interior said the alleged actions violate Decree-Law No. 159 of 2025 on combating narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and regulating their use and trafficking.
Under Article 51 of the law, anyone found guilty of encouraging or inciting drug-related offences may face up to three years in prison, a fine of up to KD 5,000, or both.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to taking legal action against anyone who promotes illegal drugs or shares misleading information about their use, urging the public to comply with the law and avoid content that could endanger public safety.
